NetEats.com ("NetEats", "we") is an independent guide to restaurants in Chicago's West Loop and Fulton Market, operated by Pete Potos. This page explains what information the site collects when you visit, how it is used, and the choices you have. Questions: support@neteats.com.

What we collect

You can read NetEats without an account. We do not ask for your name, address or payment details to use the site.

• If you write to us. When you use the contact form or email us, we receive what you send - your name, email address and message - and use it only to reply. The contact form also uses your IP address briefly to block spam.
• Usage data. Like most websites, our server and our analytics provider receive standard technical data such as your browser type, device, pages viewed, the page that referred you, and your IP address.
• Your theme choice. If you switch between light and dark mode, the choice is saved in your own browser (local storage). It is not sent to us.

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how many people visit and which pages they use. Google Analytics sets cookies and collects usage data on Google's behalf. You can read how Google uses information from sites that use its services, and you can opt out of Google Analytics with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

Advertising and cookies

NetEats shows ads from Google AdSense at the bottom of the home page and the News page.

• Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this website or other websites.
• Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to users based on their visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
• Users may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Ads Settings. Alternatively, you can opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalized advertising by visiting www.aboutads.info.

You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site still works without them; ads may be less relevant.

Links to other sites

Restaurant pages link to restaurants' own websites, reservation services such as OpenTable, Resy and Tock, maps, and news sources. Those sites have their own privacy policies; NetEats does not control them and does not receive what you share with them.

Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with the service providers described above (analytics, advertising, email and hosting) so the site can run, or when the law requires it.

Children

NetEats is a restaurant and bar guide for adults and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date at the top.
