In this week’s New York, Adam Platt considers Romera, the pricey new restaurant in the basement of the Dream Hotel. Its chef, Dr. Miguel Sanchez Romera, is a “trained neurologist and a self-taught chef whose food is described by his admirers (his Barcelona restaurant, L’Esguard, has one Michelin star) as being a kind of holistic, artisanal version of the high-wire molecular gastronomy practiced by his famous countryman Ferran Adrià.” His dishes have Greek names, tasting notes from the chef, and [...]

• The effects of the worst drought in Texas history are rippling across the U.S. and abroad in terms of cotton and food prices. We told you things were bigger in Texas. [NYT] • Following a crustacean die-off that began in 1999, there simply aren’t enough lobsters to go around for Connecticut lobstermen, many of whom are seeking other work. [HuffPo] • The Post has discovered Dumpster-diving, and to hear them tell it, the rest of us are foolish for [...]

. I’ve excerpted quite a bit, but go to the site and read the whole thing. It is rather outrageous. What an evening we had this last Friday night! It had all the makings of a really great novel: drama, suspense, anticipation, crisis, heroic efforts, villains and victors, resolution and a happy ending. The evening was everything I had dreamed and hoped it would be. The weather was perfect, the farm was filled with friends and guests roaming around talking [...]

Every 10 years, King County Council Districts are realigned to reflect population changes. This process, called “redistricting,” is currently underway. Last Thursday (October 27, 2011), the King County Districting Committee released a Districting Master’s Plan. The plan proposes a major change in districting for the Green Lake neighborhood. Under the proposed redistricting, the boundary between District 4 and District 2 would shift from Aurora Ave N to I-5. The boundary change would mean that east and south Green Lake would [...]

It is a time when creative juices flow and the everyday cares of life are lost in family and friends. It is also a time for those of us as wine writers to do our best to make your job [...]

Last spring, a local group of plant enthusiasts hung hand-made “ID bracelets” on 128 trees around the walking path at Green Lake Park. The “I Heart Trees!” project was meant to inspire and encourage visitors to the park to learn about the world around them. The signs, which were approved by Seattle Parks and Recreation, were met with acclaim from both park visitors and Green Lake residents.   Just two days after a group of volunteers hung the signs, more [...]

Another celebrity date night at Lucali. With Halloween parties gearing up this weekend, most celebrities took it easy this past week — perhaps staying in to work on costumes to rival Heidi Klum’s, or calling it an early night to get ready for the weekend’s events. Ben Stiller and Ben Affleck shared a classy seafood dinner, while David Rocco served pizza and Chianti to Zoe Kazan. Diddy, on the other hand, partied with Cameron Diaz late into Monday night at [...]
